1. Sign the Armed Forces Covenant

Organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors can sign the Armed Forces Covenant to publicly show their support for the Armed Forces community.

2. Employer Recognition Scheme

The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) acknowledges employers who have provided exceptional support to the Armed Forces community and Defence by going above and beyond their Armed Forces Covenant Pledges. 


Once you receive confirmation that your Armed Forces Covenant has been registered, you can self-nominate for a Bronze award as long as you promote yourself as being Armed Forces-friendly and are open to employing reservists, service leavers/veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses/partners.

3. Support cadets through funding or volunteering

Encourage your employees to volunteer as Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers or support the cadets in other ways through funding or work experience.  Army Cadet Charitable Trust UK (ACCT UK), the official charity of the Army Cadet Force (ACF) are proud to work with Defence Relationship Management in supporting employers on their Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) journey through Bronze, Silver and Gold.  They provide funding and support to the ACF for a variety of programmes including First Aid, Music, Sports and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Whilst also providing grants to cadets and adult volunteers for expeditions, adventure training, equipment, qualifications and more. 4. Support the Armed Forces by advertising vacancies through the Career Transition Partnership

Every year, over 14,000 skilled and experienced individuals leave the Armed Forces ready to enter the civilian workforce. Find out how your organisation could benefit.

5. Offer a discount for veterans through the Defence Discount Service

Defence Discount Service is the only official Ministry of Defence discount service for the Armed Forces, Veterans and Defence Community and provides those in the Armed Forces, Veterans and the Defence Community with discounts both online and in store. The Defence Discount Service also allows small and large companies to get involved with offering a discount and encourages companies in local areas to offer discounts to the Armed Forces Community.

6. Celebrate Armed Forces Week with your employees

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. There are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved.

7. Mark Remembrance Day

Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. The Armistice, an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War as a prelude to peace negotiations, began at 11am on 11 November 1918.

To this day we mark Armistice Day around the United Kingdom with a Two Minute Silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month.
